Challenge
We are moving towards a cashless society, however, charities are facing a drop in donations and the majority of their donations are made using cash. The demographic most likely to donate are those aged 65 and over who also have less familiarity with technology and less ability to donate online.
Solution
To combat this I created a concept for a limited run of banknotes that could be easily scanned with a corresponding app to allow the user to easily donate to a variety of charities. The banknotes are themed into different types of charities and when scanned show a featured charity of that type to diversify the charities that people donate to.
The note imagery features different nods to that area of charity such as the Victorian Language of Flowers that can be decoded to add to the message of that charity type. The majority of those aged 65 and over own smartphones but only use simple and intuitive apps and so the app is designed to work with only a few steps to donate.
